Celebrate!! 5 years since CD debut and 10 years since formation!!

---The day of the 5th and 10th anniversary, Tanaka-kun sent a message to all the members?!
Ko: yes, yes! And as a response I received from Nakamaru a really nonsensical picture. (laughs)
N: I thought it was funny! (laughs) It doesn’t matter how many years has passed, fundamentally we haven’t changed so much.
Ka: Yeah. But compared to the past, we’ve became able to talk, right?
Ko: We can also have serious discussions now.
U: Probably we achieved even a sense of responsibility.
Ko: In those 3 months after we were formed, we said “let’s do a serious chat”. “The KAT-TUN meeting” (laughs)
N: But there were also times we didn’t know what was the right choice.
Ka: It happens a lot, right? First, there’s the time “let’s do our best as a group”, and then we start solo activities… For KAT-TUN, wasn’t that time long? I think that now is the time when each one achieves power through individual activities and then enforce the unity of the group again. There’s the feeling we reached a new start.

--What do you think the “KAT-TUN-style” is?
N: As expected, the rap must be the charming point.
Ko: Stupid!

N: it disproves the Johnny’s image…
Ka: Bald head! (laughs) The first time I met Nakamaru he was bald, right?

--This spring many people had a new start in a new environment; among KAT-TUN’s members too, there’s someone that has started a new TV program! In this new [working] place, what is your endeavor?
Ko: I’m already into the flow.
U: Me too. After I reach the place…
Ko: Because you don’t need to feel nervous.
U: Yes, I think you must read that moment’s atmosphere and correspond with it.
Ko: Taguchi is a steel heart. (laughs) [T/N: meaning he follows his own rules.]
J: (laughs) If [the new environment] is school, I think it’s fine to look for friends starting from familiar matching interests.
Ka: right. For me, during “Going! Sport&News”, I seal my KAT-TUN self. Because when we appear as KAT-TUN we are the main focus, but “GOING” is a sport program and the protagonists are the baseball players.

--The best part of the new song “WHITE”!
U: It’s a positive and cheerful song. It’s a melody line that can be listened to by a wide range of class of people and it lets a new side of KAT-TUN to appear, among all KAT-TUN songs.
N: It’s refreshing~ Since it’s also in a cosmetic CM, I’d be happy if even women in their 20-30s will listen to it.
Ko: There are also many coupling songs, what’s your favourite one?
Ka: I like “PERFECT”.
U: People who listen to this song can become energetic. I also like how the strings in the intro are inserted.
Ko: It’s beautiful, right. And Taguchi?
J: I like “PERFECT” too. It’s a song with a strong message.
Ko: because it’s a cheering song for the present era. I’m touched when I hear it in the CM and I think “Our song is like this”.
N: The refreshing image of the song perfectly fits the CM, I was happy.
U: It’s like the original freshness of the song grew even bigger with the CM.
J: Since it’s often broadcasted as CM, I’d be happy if you will remember it as a KAT-TUN’s song.
N: Both the song and the CM have a multiplier effect for each other’s image.
Ko: “Yuuki no hana” is a KAT-TUN-like cheering song. It’s our way to express support in our own style.
Ka: Since it’s a song that was created when we said by ourselves “We want to do such a song!”, I think it has become a song that has a KAT-TUN-like message.
J: Because what we can do is all of us to sing a song and then deliver it to everyone. I would be happy if something will be delivered to the heart of the listeners after listening to it.
U: Also the lyrics, it’s a song composed with all of our ideas, so I’d like you to listen to it with knowing this basis.
Ko: “SILENCE” is cool too!
N: Yes. After the earthquake, when everyone had lost their energy, we thought of the people living in the East Japan and wanted them to go back to positive emotions like “Let’s do our best!”, so we created this song.
J: In the lyrics, smiles are compared to “flowers”, but we would be happy if you will make many “smiles” bloom while you listen to it.

Ka: This time the theme is to decide many “YES-NO” things. What do you think, shall we talk about our bad and daily habits?
J: If we talk about habits, Koki always listen to loud volume music in front of everyone, right?
N: Ah, for example before lives, right?
Ko: I do it to raise the tension before the real thing, so it’s absolutely ok!
N: Looking at that hyper Koki my tension raises (laughs)
Ka: But each one of us has different favourite artists.
J: Yes, exactly~! There’s no artist that we all agree “I like this one, I want to listen to him”. What shall we do next time?
U: In this case it can’t be helped, everyone listens to his favourite music using earphones. (laughs)

N: Ah, it just came to mind now, but there’s a soccer team that reunites very 1st class players in which they watch their great plays all together before the match. It seems that they look at themselves and their tension raises, sort of “we can do it!”. Don’t you think that this would be fine?

Ka: Or better, it’s because Koki and I are the type that wants to go outside and move the body before the real show, more than staying backstage.
Ko: Talking about it, one time it happened that Kame and I played badminton before the show. I remember we sweated a lot because we settled a rule not to stop until we could do 50 consecutive exchanges.
J: What would it happened if you didn’t manage?
Ka: Don’t worry, after all we are KAT-TUN (laughs)

Ka: By the way, when last year we did the “7 days in Tokyo dome”, one time after a rehearsal I went out, bought a jersey and a bat and played baseball.

J: Sesame sauce is popular. For me sesame is a NO. I like eating it with simple soup most.
Ka: Eh, really? For me the best YES is ponzu+garlic.

Ko: I also surely add garlic.

Ka: No, it’s the same of those. Even leggings, they have changed many times together with the era, and in this changing process the names changed too. That’s what I think.
U: Ah~ of course, got it.
N: For me this isn’t important, I think that’s more a NO men of a couple walking in the city whom bring the woman’s bag in her behalf.
All: That’s a NO~
J: Or better, it’s the wrong usage.
Ko: I understand if you carry a heavy load, but isn’t weird that the man carries anything and everything?
U: It is!
Ka: I think the same. Yeah, finally we’ve got the same opinion! (laughs) Then to conclude, work talk. On 18th May our new song “WHITE” will be released, I also want to do to a concert soon.
N: Yes. Exactly because it’s after the earthquake, I want to go on stage holding stronger than usual the consciousness of “let’s show we can transmit energy!”
U: Because holding concerts this year has a great meaning for us.

---“WHITE” is a song that has another different atmosphere compared to your 2 previous singles.
Ko: yes, but actually we dance a lot even in “WHITE”.
U: Surely the time we won’t dance will never arrive, for us…. So depressing! (laughs)
N: No no, let’s do our best! (laughs)

---The point of view of the lyrics?
U: The first one is from the eyes of a woman, the chorus is a general point of view, and the second one is from the eyes of a man. For this reason, we would like you to listen and notice this too.
N: If [the song] impresses adult women too, it will be good.
J: I think it would be nice if it can become a song loved by everyone, regardless of the scene or the age.

---It’s the CM song for the Sofina whitening, what do you think about women who pay attention to white skin?
J: Women who pay attention to everything are fine, right?
U: Yes, it’s fine.
Ko: You know, I think “Women pay attention, men just pay”. [T/N: ROTFL. Koki says a word play that sounds like “Women use attention, men use money”. Koki, you’re smart XD]

Ko: I think it’s a wonderful thing to be conscious of beauty, but more than that Sofina (emphasizes and) exists to become beautiful.

---Which production is the PV?
Ko: I think it’s since “White X’mas” that we always say we want to film a PV without dance. I thought “Finally we could!”
Ka: The project says we all went to the same University; then 5 years after the graduation we go back another time to that University.
J: In the scene where we pass around the picture of our 5 in the pass case, looking at a picture of the debut time, Koki was bald! (laughs) So we were all naturally laughing (laughs)

---About the dressing room corner’s special clip?
Ka: Nakamaru’s project!
N: it’s the best! Because it had many improvements.
J: It was very amusing! It’s a darts competition. Like 1, 2, 3, darts! (wide smile)

--- “PERFECT” was sung very soon at a music show.
Ko: We did it with all our might because we too wanted to communicate, and we received really favorable reviews by Arashi’s members and the staff around.
J: It was good. It was really worth doing it!

---The dance in perfect step is the best part.
Ka: There have been results for practicing reeeally a lot.
Ko: Because we were able to meet many times and made our bodies absorb [the choreography].
J: My feet were full of blisters!
N: Yes, we had blisters!
J: On top of that the theme of the choreography is “to join”, so both the positions follow it and how the steps matches are the main point.
Ko: Because there are lots of songs during the lives with unison dance.

---After the performance, Ueda-kun was talking to Kamenashi-kun…?
U: This guy got the choreography wrong!

Ka: After the highest note, I mistook completely the enter timing (laughs)
U: When we ended singing the song, I scolded him for 20 minutes! (laughs)

Ka: As compensation, I gave Ueda the dog he currently has.
U: True, true! (laughs)
Ka: Saying “sorry” (laughs)

J: I want to do the “uh!” at the end of the “TOMORROW” in the chorus all together. I would like that even the audience says “hyu!” with a shrill feeling.

---“Yuuki no hana” is a sweet song, it starts with the piano.
Ka: About this song, we created it with the keyword “it’s directed to the stricken area’s [victims]” inside of us.
U: The intro reminds a bit about “Battlefield’s Merry Christmas” [T/N: Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence in English].
J: It has that kind of atmosphere.
Ko: It’s really a good song! It worries me that it starts from me though (laughs)
J: It’s strange that Koki starts singing.
Ka: But the lyrics “pierrot” and “come next to me” are Koki-like.
Ko: The “Ueda and I” harmony is also weird, and Ueda’s falsetto is beautiful. Even Kame’s singing voice has a different feeling.
Ka: This song is good, almost to want to make it a single cut!

---“SILENCE” is a song that only KAT-TUN can do.
Ko: The rap in this song is sung in a bit “sigh-like” way.
U: It’s a KAT-TUN-like song, we want to make sure not to lose such an element either.
Ka: “WHITE” and “PERFECT” are songs that they let us sing inside the image of the CM. Considering this, the remaining 2 songs are the ones created with our message, so more than saying they’re rich of variety, probably they include lots of elements.

---Considering all the songs, the harmony is impressive, what is your favourite combination?
Ka: I like Nakamaru’s voice! We harmonize together very often too.
J: I like Nakamaru-kun’s voice too!
U: My part has the image that I’m often with Taguchi.
Ko: Ueda’s high notes are beautiful, Taguchi’s harmony fits too, so the originality creates good stuff and I like all of them.
J: It seems the next combination patterns will become fun~
Ka: Because they aren’t fixed, right?
U: It will be good if we can create new expressions with many combinations.

---Then, send a message to the fans who are giving their best in different situations!
J: I think there are many people like Office Ladies and salary men that suffer of letdown/depression, so I’d like them to cheer up with these songs!
N: There are also many people who are giving their best on work activities. Now I think it’s difficult, but there is also the stream of the society, so if listening to our support songs like “perfect” they become more positive without giving in, I would be happy.
Ko: Now the feeling “I would like you to be strong and do your best” is stronger than before, I want to be strong and do our best together. If even one person thanks to our performances will think “I will give my best even more”, as response we will do our best too. I think it would be good if we can create this wheel.
U: As first thing it would be good if the audience listen to the song and enjoy it. Then, probably the best would be if their positive intentions rise, or better if they can become happier.
Ka: I think there are many people who are living in a difficult situation, but I think also that the “feeling” of that time is very strong. It would be good if even from this single such a feeling firmly arrives. I would be glad if, even just a bit, they could become happier, if both we and they could be positive!

ABOUT KAME
From Koki : The feelings towards work. Of course everyone thinks work is important, but Kame is the one who always thinks about it carefully. In a certain meaning, he’s the best idol.
From Tatsuya : He’s good at baseball! I saw him at the Johnny’s sport event, and even someone that doesn’t know a thing about baseball like me understands he’s good.
From Yuichi : As first thing, his professional consciousness is high! Since he gives his best in whatever he does, when you look at him from beside, you can absolutely feel his professionalism.
From Junnosuke : It should be that star-aura, right. The action of suddenly take the sunglasses off in the intervals between the songs is absolutely impossible for me! (laughs)

KAME (about the song) : It’s a song with lots of expressions. I sang it entering in the spirit!
You can say it’s a KAT-TUN-style song too, but with the feeling of being a song that carries lots of faces inside it… “after that intro there’s this chorus?”, I myself was almost surprised. I think we can call it a song with a wide extension. I sang it with the heart entering in the spirit. But at the recording… I unexpectedly had a hard time! (laughs)


ABOUT JUNNO
From Koki : He laughs easily! He opens his mouth wide and laughs loudly, so being together is refreshing, and even if you slip, if Taguchi laughs you’re saved (laughs).
From Tatsuya : He’s selfish! (laughs) He goes his pace, like the youngest children. I’m continuously spreading “you’re being selfish~” lines though (laughs)
From Yuichi : Maybe the acrobats. I think he has lots of dynamism because he’s tall. I can’t, at such a level you can say I “entirely and completely can’t do it”… (laughs)
From Kazuya : The “Ultimate” of Taguchi? As expected, his puns, right? (laughs) Because after all, he calms down everyone’s heart!

JUNNO (about the song) : When I listen to this song, the members surface in my mind.
It has the feeling of “refreshing rock”, a song that is simple to remember at first catch. Even the lyrics have the theme of “ring/wheel”, so while thinking about friends, you think “there are many people I sympathize with, huh”. Me too: the members surfaced in my mind. In the PV we dance a lot; I guess you will enjoy the different atmosphere from the CM!


ABOUT KOKI
From Yuichi : The motivation towards the rap, and how he builds up his own style. I would like that even more people listen to Koki’s raps.
From Tatsuya : His rap is incredible! Listening to it, for example during the concerts, I can feel “Ah, he’s good!” even if we’re band mates.
From Kazuya : His raps are the best! They’re really incredible. Even for us KAT-TUN is something that can’t miss.
From Junnosuke : He has humor, he will surely make each place excited. When we do the radio together, I keep laughing aaaall the time! (laughs)

KOKI (about the song) : It’s a refreshing, KAT-TUN-like piece
If I have to make a comparison, I’d say it’s “a song refreshing in our way”. After that, I like the gap. The image of the intro and the A-melody is completely different from the chorus, and even in the PV first we dance a lot and then it becomes slow: it’s like really opposite stuff are mixed together. Quietness and movements, light and shadows, white and black… I think it’s a song that permits you to enjoy that gap, both with eyes and ears.

From Yuichi : His stoicism. Looking how he gives himself into boxing, his attitude of continuing doing [what he’s started doing] no matter how much harsh may be, is impressing.
From Kazuya : After all, it should be the “lightness of his footwork”. Both his boxing and the way of get himself into shape are “ultimate”!
From Junnosuke : His stoic side, I suppose! Both in KAT-TUN’s activities and in boxing, he always puts all his force! He’s never inefficiently, even backstage! (laughs)

UEDA (about the song) : The image of a car turning at a curve on a mountain appeared.
The first time I listened to it, both the melody line and the sensation of speed the chorus has made me think that it was perfect for a car CM. It may be clichéd, but doesn’t it fit an image like turning at a curve on a mountain arriving from a straight road? (laughs) Moreover, the bare sound of the piano and the violins that sounds like they have been inserted as they are, may be a bit refreshing.

ABOUT MARU
From Koki : He’s careful at everything! (laughs) I’m the type which is fine with doing things roughly, so if I’m not next to people like him, I’m troubled.
From Junnosuke : He is the kind person that can’t be hated by anyone. Since he has a side prone to worrying too, there are many people that follow to help him as allies.
From Tatsuya : He’s careful! His bag and house are clean; he has the image of being perfect. Only about time and hours he isn’t perfect (laughs)
From Kazuya : At the end, after all it’s probably the beat box. Because his way of reaching the best doesn’t stop halfway. I’m always stimulated by him.

MARU (about the song) : The “spirit” to add when singing at the karaoke is in the B melody!
The melody is catchy, the lyrics are simple to remember, it has the feeling of running at full speed exactly like the CM suggest. it’s really a “song for a car” (laughs) I especially like the part “No! No! No!” in the chorus, how that part remains in the ears. I think it’s simple even to sing at karaoke! If you sing it, put some emotion in the B melody; try to add a bit of modulation!

Kame: The details of the lives aren’t decided yet, but we’ll show you how we have grown up with the experiences we have had until now.
Junno: The 5 great domes were our aim, so the spirit is incredible! I want to do the industrial complex [live] with a manly feeling.
Koki: I’m happy that our dream has been granted, and it would be amusing if we can do a different live at each Dome. I’m looking forward to what we will do at the open- air event too.
Ueda: We have arrived here with the idea of wanting to perform at the 5 great domes, so we’re really happy. It seems that even the open-air event will turn out being fun.
Maru: The Dome tour will have the strength where we pour everything we have cultivated until now. At the open-air event, we will show a different taste from what you’ve seen until now!


CROSSTALK
The destination is whichever way the wind carries us?! The delusional long trip talk!

Ka: Ok! Today we’re going to talk following the theme “If KAT-TUN goes on a drive…”. It would be a “delusional drive date” of 5 guys~!
J: Let’s do a 1 night trip at a hot spring.
Ko: Where? Hakone?
N: Let’s entrust the plan to Taguchi.
J: The budget is around 6000 yen for 1 night?
Ko: It’s ok even if it’s hard to reach, but I want to enter in the hot spring.
N: That’s because you go on a trip, so the hot springs are important. Hot springs or camping.
Ko: Camping is fine too, but this time let’s go to the hot springs as Taguchi’s plan. Nakamaru puts the car and Kame drives. Then, halfway, Nakamaru will put me on my place with a comment because I will go too hyper. Ueda would be the one saying selfish stuff.
U: Then I can suddenly say stuff like “I want to eat OO” at a parking?
Ko: If it’s Ueda saying it, we can tour by feet all the parkings.
Other 4: We would never do that! (laughs)
N: By the way, of course we would use the new Solio, right?
Ka: Of course. I’ll put the car too!
N: Then, let’s go with 2 cars then?
Ko: We would get into them with a 1:4 ratio (laughs)

Ka: Hot springs are fine, but I want to do marine sports too. And billiard or Ping-Pong. But even if we enter all 5 together in the hot spring Taguchi will exit right away. Koki and I would take a long bath though…
J: Because it’s hot!
Ka: Well, let’s leave behind Taguchi’s hot spring discussion. I went recently to Guam for a recording and inside my heart I was thinking all the time “Ah, it would have been fun coming with KAT-TUN…”.
Ko: You’re suddenly saying touching stuff.
Ka: Because when we went all together to Guam was very fun. That’s why on this other occasion I thought “I will keep dear the group”.
N: Yes, you said a good thing. Are you possibly aiming to raise your degree of good impression? Ehy, Kame is slightly smiling?!

ROLLING SQUEEZED TOGETHER

2010 was a year of great change. The first tour outside of Japan was a great success too, so what do the boys feel about the activities of this year?

J: If we have to sum up KAT-TUN's 2010 in one sentence, it would be “We can change” [T/N: in English in the original text]. The new single is simply “CHANGE UR WORLD”.
Ka: You're right. The number of members changed too, and before this, there were individual changes while the solo activities of each one piled up; due to all of this, the balance of the group is changing yearly. Rather than being a year of reconfirmation, it was a year when the members tried to understand every member's mind direction.
Ko: It's true, we gathered many times to talk. I don't know about the other groups, but anyway I've the confidence that in this 2010 year, among Johnny's, we were the group that talked the most! (laughs)
N: As expected, we have realized that if we don't talk, we can't understand each other.
Ka: It sounds like a lesson for couples in their stage of ennui (laughs). Because thanks to our meetings we escape from the crisis of divorce (laughs)
U: Of course our faith as a group doesn't change... mustn't change. This is because [keeping] the balance of the parts that might change is difficult, I think.
Neverthless, what you considered a disadvantage at that time, it could be positive to be the origin of our growth as we look at it on the long term.
N: Indeed. For the time being, taking 2010 as an advantage, it's valuable to be able to reunite and talk all together, for example when it's time to release a new song. Let's continue with this stance from now on too.
J: Even being able to do a tour overseas for the first time was a big event. It was something we've always wanted to do, so I was happy. But it's sad that we couldn't go to Thailand (because the show was cancelled due to the political unrest)...
N: Yeah. I really felt that our job is one that can be done only during peaceful times. I reconsidered and corrected my point of view a bit.
Ka: Oh, you said a wise thing!
J: But Korean and Taiwanese fans were amazing, weren't they? We rarely meet them, and more than being wild/enthusiastic, it was like the power was conserved and piled up and exploded.
U: What I thought when we were doing the Asia performances was that even if our cultures are different, the fact that we can transmit something to our audience, and the fact that we actually transmit it, doesn’t change. I was somehow happy.
Ka: I understand, I understand. With that meaning I felt the blessing during the domestic tour too. I think that the fact that we were able to do the Arena Tour had great importance too. If perhaps we had done only the Dome shows and then immediately done the overseas shows, the feelings would have been absolutely different.
Ko: “After having met our Japanese fans, we challenged the overseas [shows/world]”, right? Thanks to them, we could gain power and we received confidence.
Ka: The Arena Tour was fun, I want to do it again. We may ask Miyazaki Hayao-san to help with ideas for the set on the next tour.
J: You're exaggerating~ (laughs)
U: That's great. Then, starting with that, let's ask for a movie too!
Ka: Exactly (laughs). Because being a voice actor for a Gibli anime is my dream. I'm thinking about the live too, but I had an exchange of opinions with Nakamaru about the direction to take in 2011.
Ko: When did you talk?
Ka: Yesterday we had a date and we talked.
N: In a Cafè in Urahara, yeah (laughs).
J: I want to give my best in order to have a KAT-TUN TV program in 2011. I want to challenge many things I've not done yet.
Ka: I think there are many things we still haven't done as a group. For example, we have never done a theatre play all together...
J: With the members? So embarrassing! (bitter smile)
U: I can do it.
Ko: I just don't want to see Nakamaru's love scene.
N: You don't need to worry, there's no demand. (bitter smile) But if we would be able to do a drama as a group, it seems it would be fun.

---Your 15th single, “WHITE”, is used in the Sofina CM too, it’s a fresh song. How’s singing it?
Ko: Refreshing!
J: Eh? Really?
U: Taguchi, ssh. Shut up.
Ko: …the melody is refreshing.
Ka: Yes, It’s a good song with a fresh feeling.
U: You know~ this time we recorded the PV at a German school, right? There were lots of foreigners and I talked quite a lot~
N: When, I didn’t notice?!!
Ko: This time is drama-like. It is story type, based on the idea that 5 years before we all went at the same college.
N: Meeting after 5 years at the school, looking at a picture and laughing.
J: When I looked at the monitor during the filming, the image quality had a movie-ish aura. I think it’s very cool.
Ka: Then, of course, we have added the promised game as special footage!
N: Please look forward to it~


Nakamaru’s absentminded declaration is a severe earthquake for the members?!?

---WHITE lyrics are written with both the male and female point of view. But, if you became girls, what would you do?
N: I would probably have girls talks~
Ka: I would take a bath!

J: What would you do after entering the bathtub?
Ka: I wouldn’t do something to my own body; I would enter in the girls’ bathroom!

Ka: Then I’d wear a one piece dress. I hear it’s fresh/cool, I wonder if it’s true.
Ko: I would emphasize my breast. I want to become a very beautiful girl and being picked up.

Ka: It’s a cheering song for who’s just entered the society. But at the beginning of our debut we were the “will never sing a cheering song” characters, right? (bitter smile)
Ko: But exactly for this reason I think it’s necessary to sing it. We have always wanted to sing it but we were always told “you’re KAT-TUN, so…”. Finally we are able to sing it.
U: I’d like that you listen to it when you feel down.
J: You will be able to cheer up!
N: For example the line “TOMORROW uh~” seems will be really exciting during lives.
J: Tomorrow, haiku of the heart~ [T/N: it’s a pun between tomorrow/tomoro and Tomozou, which I think it’s an old anime character.]
N: …that’s Tomozou, right. No, we aren’t talking about that, but lives. We’re making you waiting a bit.

What’s KAT-TUN’s turning point?
Ko: There are lots.
N: From when we became KAT-TUN, every year people of the agency…

N: They tell us this even now.

Ko: Of course we don’t think there are useless periods, it has this meaning. But you know, sometimes is a “we don’t have free time to lose focus!”
J: Every year there are also jobs we are glad to have done, right?
Ka: there aren’t years we say “such a quiet year”.
N: Every year we act with the feelings “this year we must give ourselves”
Ka: But around every 2 years and half, we are brought back to the starting point, more or less (laughs)

He doesn't listen to what I'm saying (laughs). Even though I warned him that Kame has a wine cellar, he bought him one for his birthday!

I thought this was a pic from last month (laughs). But I grew up a bit... I was young after all. I mean, I have a healthy complexion (laughs).

Ueda is... adorable! Everybody says he's mysterious, but he gets lonely easily, he's like a spoiled child and the most like the youngest child.

In KAT-TUN, what are you No. 1 at?
The number of my hobbies. Bikes, shamisen, cars, fishing, survival games. One of my hobbies is also to look for a fiancé for my pet dog Sakura (laughs).

How do you see yourself in 10 years?
I'd still like to continue boxing all the while. If I carry it on for another 10 years, how strong could I get? I'd really like to know that.

An unexpected side of yourself?
It's not unexpected, but I'm more selfish than people think!? Recently the others often get all, “Who do you think you are!” on me (laughs).

His answer five years ago → I quickly lose my temper (laughs). Then I kick the waste basket in my rage and lie about it.

I'd like to play with my kids (laughs). I'd like to marry... As for work, I feel the same as five years ago. Because I still think the same.

PLAY- BY-PLAY OF THEIR SPRING PICNIC
ACT 1

Going out in the nice and warm sun!

Departure to this month's shooting location, a picnic spot along the Tamagawa. Everyone's tension is high from the start! Shortly after arriving the members discover a patch of clovers on the shore of the river. On Koki-kun's shout of “Look for happiness!” he and Nakamaru-kun start an intense search for four-leaved clovers. Next to that, Kamenashi-kun worries, “Because the wind is strong today, let's take the pictures at the bushes over there. My hair gets all messed up (laughs)”, acting on his own.

Nakamaru = Pochi*? Taguchi dashes off
(*typical Japanese dog name)

Meanwhile, Koki-kun, having gotten sick of the clover-search, gets on the bike and starts racing off & Taguchi-kun runs fervently after a plastic bag that flew off. Then there's Kamenashi-kun, putting the frisbee on the ground, going “Pochi, Pochi! Catch this!” in a silly make-believe game, while Nakamaru hits him, “Who's Pochi!”. Ueda-kun tries to make the bamboo propeller fly, but gives up after they get carried off by the strong wind. (tear)
As expected (!?), they couldn't be gathered together before the shooting, making the staff impatient.

ACT 2

Why Koki is on top...?

Lying down on the picnic sheet for the shoot, they all fret that, “No matter how you look at this, the sheet was made for four people (laugh)”. Koki-kun, who lost the fight for the spots, panics the moment he lies down on top of the bushes, “Those are pricking my stomach!”, and he falls with a thud on the backs of the other members. ♪ Needless to say, Ueda-kun calls out, “Ah, you're heavy (sweat)”. After this, everybody's smiling widely over Kamenashi-kun's and Nakamaru-kun's imitation of Doraemon: “Shizuka-chaa~n!” “Takekoputa!” (laugh).

Playing too much... getting exhausted.

Finally, frisbee time! Ueda-kun announces his skills, “I can catch it in a cool way!” Watching this, Nakamaru-kun goes, “You guys, if you overdo this, you'll get all tired~” (laugh) On the way back in the strong wind, Kamenashi mutters, “We didn't fly a kite... [tako in Japanese]”, prompting a “Takoyaki~” from Ueda → “Not that kind of tako! (laughs)” (Kamenashi), causing all of them to laugh till the end.

Kamenashi: With what timing again did Nakamaru become the character he's now? (laughs)
Nakamaru: Slowly, quite slowly (laughs).
Tanaka: Previously, his character also seemed more flashy, right? (laughs)
Nakamaru: Certainly (laughs).
Kamenashi: Your hair was long, too, right?
Nakamaru: But for that, there was a reason.

Ueda: Koki changed his hairstyle extremely often~
Nakamaru: Does he plan to shave it again?
Tanaka: I dunno.
Nakamaru: Koki became unexpectedly an adult (looks down at him)
Tanaka: Hey! (gets angry) You, do you think you've got me all figured out? (laughs)
Nakamaru: Yes (laughs).
Taguchi: He finally works well with others (laughs). During the time of our debut, when we got a couple bowls of ramen as a present, Koki just ate them all (laughs).
Kamenashi: He directed his power into a good direction now, right?
Ueda: Like a jack knife that turned into a butter knife!

Nakamaru: A butter knife is really gentle. It doesn't hurt people.

Nakamaru: Your looks back then were all “search for myself”...
Tanaka: And depressing (laughs).
Kamenashi: By the way, Ueda was totally not Johnny's-like at that time. Because he had blue eyes! (laughs)
Tanaka: He was even more Visual than me then (laughs).
Ueda: Yes. It was an expression of how we wanted to stand out.
Tanaka: The painful past?
Ueda: Yes. But only because of this past, we can now joke about it~
Taguchi: That's good!
Tanaka: We became the way we're now about two years after our debut, right?
Ueda: Yes. At that time, I sprayed my hair brown and showed it to Kame, asking, “How is it?” Kame said, “Brown is not bad, but somehow normal.” And I thought, “On the contrary, that's it!” Because I was always terribly flashy, I wanted to be “normal” this time.
Tanaka: So, you're saying it's thanks to Kame's words that you probably went into a strange direction?
Ueda: Maybe (laughs).


Taguchi Junnosuke's five years are?

Nakamaru: So, Taguchi is the next topic. Speaking about him, he has a lot of hobbies, right?
Tanaka: They change every year. Like billiards, darts...
Ueda: Previously, I did billiards together with Taguchi. He's very good.
Nakamaru: He goes very far with everything.
Ueda: No, just a bit better than anyone else (laughs).
Tanaka: After reaching a point above mediocrity, he wants to move on to the next (laughs).
Ueda: Apart from that, he's the King of Selfishness!! (laughs)
Taguchi: Eh! Really?! (sweat)
Ueda: I'm selfish too, but Taguchi succeeds that (laughs).
Kamenashi: I didn't plan to say that Taguchi is selfish, but when somebody tells a story...
Tanaka: He interrupts them (laughs).

Nakamaru: But that's good. It's also his strong point!
Kamenashi: Yesyes.
Nakamaru: During shows, when he suddenly says strange stuff, the audience seems to laugh about it.
Taguchi: Doesn't that get less?

Kamenashi Kazuya's five years are?

Tanaka: It seems like Kame has built up his age in a lot of different senses.
Nakamaru: Saying that, wasn't he super skinny back then?
Kamenashi: Eh, talking about my figure?
Nakamaru: I happened to see some old pictures, and I was surprised!
Kamenashi: At that time, eating food didn't have any meaning. When I was concentrating on a show or something, I didn't feel hungry.
Nakamaru: You gave off the impression of slurping maybe about two noodles (laughs).
Taguchi: Recently, you became an adult in a good way.
Kamenashi: I'm also reading the newspaper~ (laughs) But I think I consciously put on this front.
Tanaka: I get that. I also keep thinking “you have to be sharp, you have to be sharp” (laughs).
Kamenashi: Back then, I refused having black hair. But now, I refuse being blond. That really changed. Thinking about it like that, we did kinda grow up.
Nakamaru: But somehow, it feels comfortable. Because of this, we'll enjoy KAT-TUN from now on too.
Ueda: It's been ten years since our formation, ten years.
Kamenashi: It's a state of change in a good way.

KAT-TUN who have stepped into their 5th debut anniversary getting to recall about the past years. Now that they're thinking about it...

Koki : Kame was so slim.

Junno : Koki had a skin head.

Kame : Ueda's face looked drowsy* (Laughs). (*not sure)

Ueda : It was just at that time to get pictures taken like that, you know!

Koki : But Nakamaru's one looked disturbing.

Maru : What?!

Koki : There is a picture of you really lookinng disturbing alright.

Maru : Ah..getting to see these things right now, it's somehow awkward. So as our comments. I understand how they wanted us to say things laughable, but when it's written down here, I don't think it's laughable at all.

Koki : The problem of passing funny stuffs through letters exists sometimes but even we talk it out loud, the funny level is still low isn't it ?

Junno : Uepi did have an extreme comment too saying "I'm Victoria Beckham".

Ueda : At that time, many people said so.

Kame : Looked like Beckham ?

Ueda : No...looked like Victoria.

Kame : What's about David then?

Ueda : Saying David as another gag ?

Koki : You guys go apologize to Victoria right now.

Everyone : (Laughs)

Maru : As expected, comments are important. From now on, I wouldn't try saying funny things. I will only answer seriously.

Kame : As for me, myself now and at that time hasn't changed much. Reading those old stuffs, I don't think I feel awdward about them.

Koki : Kame used to say "no matter when I would like to keep my childish and naughty heart like wearing only an underwear in the room".

Kame : Even I said so, I don't do like that nowdays but of course, I have never forgot my childish heart.

Maru : Taguchi used to do backflips nakedly in the room.

Junno : That was before the debut.

Kame : You did it when we toured (concerts) somewhere.

Junno : It looked really messy back then.

Ueda : We played until tired. But at that time, it was full of smiling faces.

Junno : Un! It was even more fun than the concert itself.

Koki : You...say apologize to fans right now!

Five years from now when it's your 10th debut anniversary, what do you think your group will be ?

Kame : If we can be a team that can see KAT-TUN as important even when we work separately, it will be great. We're building that kind of base now. Although we've been together for so long but indeed our base is not strong enough.

Koki : If they say we're slow, then we're slow indeed. (<--slow in building KAT-TUN constitutionally).

Maru : You know...I've been decorating my room with KAT-TUN singles recently.

Junno : he~....you sure love the group so much.

Kame : That feeling is important. The stage that we will be able to show our present KAT-TUN is the coming live tour!

Ueda : We'd like them to see us at the present. If everyone can look for KAT-TUN's good points again, I will be delight.

Our pair for the second interview is Nakamaru and Kamenashi. What's the relationship between you two like?

Nakamaru: Actually, we're both of the same year [they entered JE at the same time]. That's why he's someone I can rely on from the bottom of my heart. Of course this doesn't only apply to Kame but to the other members too, but we both share the aim to work hard and when asking for advice, he's someone with whom I can talk about anything.

Kamenashi: Yes. But our types are completely different. Nakamaru is really a matter of fact person. Since he properly works out his thoughts at home even for meetings, he's deeply injured when the things he says there get rejected. But since I basically only say stuff I thought of spontaneously at that moment, I'm not really hurt even if I get told it's impossible (laughs).

Nakamaru: Kame is very sociable. And, even though I think he already knows this himself, he's a spendthrift if you ask me (laughs).

Kamenashi: Nono, it's not like that. Isn't this simply a case of different values?

Nakamaru: Kame's way of thinking is to buy good things when it's the right time. I basically don't have that, but recently it maybe did have quite an effect on me. The other day, I bought a pretty good drum type washing machine, since it's something I use everyday. But this one is really good, it's so convenient! I'm glad I bought it.

Even though your type is different, do you go out together?

Kamenashi: We actually never did that before.

Nakamaru: Hey... we did, we did! (laughs)

Kamenashi: ...that's how our relationship is like (laughs). When we say different things, Nakamaru's story is to 90% the right one.

Nakamaru: This is quite an old one, but didn't we go together to the cinema near Kinshi-chou?

Kamenashi: Eh, really? I know I watched “The Green Mile” with Koki, but I don't remember what I saw with you. This also has been a long time ago, but you came to my hometown, right?

Nakamaru: I did, I did!

Kamenashi: And, this was two years ago, we went to watch the Baseball Climax Series at Tokyo Dome.

Nakamaru: That was a great game~

Kamenashi: Surprisingly, of all the members, it's pretty much Nakamaru I do stuff with in my private time. Because, well, I get normal calls from Taguchi, but I couldn't imagine inviting Ueda or Koki to a café during the day (laughs). Daytime activities are usually with Nakamaru! Last year I also invited him and the two of us went to a drive together.

Nakamaru: Yesyes, Kame gave me a ride in his convertible. Until then, I didn't know that the warm wind goes all from your head to your toes when you're driving in a convertible (laughs).

Kamenashi: It was around the end of October, wasn't it?

Nakamaru: It was a bit chilly, right.

Kamenashi: Driving a convertible feels really good in spring and autumn. Today, right, would be a day for a drive. Going along the ocean where there's a cool breeze, with the heating turned on - your face would be a bit cold, but your body would be warm and it'd be like sitting in an open-air bath (laughs).


What are your next plans?

Kamenashi: I beat Nakamaru gaming, so he promised to treat me for sushi.

Nakamaru: I'd take you whenever.

Kamenashi: Nakamaru, aren't you 27 already?

Nakamaru: Yes.

Kamenashi: Well, then you'll have to take me to a high class sushi restaurant like a real adult.

Nakamaru: What?!

Kamenashi: Ah, but I kind of feel like drinking wine today. After this, I have a recording, but wait for me till it's over!

Nakamaru: I have a recording too.

Kamenashi: Well, isn't that perfect? Let's go to a restaurant I know!

Nakamaru: Is it... expensive?

Kamenashi: It depends on the wine. If possible, I want to start with champagne, continue with white wine and I also want to order a red wine. Depending on the food, I might want to drink a white or a red one. My ideal would be with three glasses arranged on the table, for white wine, red, and water.

Nakamaru: Seriously? All I've seen before is a glass of Coke and plum wine standing next to each other (laughs). And, speaking about good wine, where's the difference? Taste?

Kamenashi: The sourness is different. A good wine has a good sourness. It makes me feel happy.

Nakamaru: This is an unknown world to me. But I recently got some wine in the conbini and drank it at home along with some deep-fried garlic. ...Ah, thinking about it, it was also thanks to Kame's influence that I came to like garlic. Kame, you love garlic, right?

Kamenashi: Not just love, I'm obsessed (laughs). When I go for teppanyaki, I eat about ten servings of garlic chips. While people around me throw in warnings like, “Does it smell? Are you OK?”

Nakamaru: Before, I couldn't believe anyone who said they liked garlic. But now, I eat it every day. It's amazing!


Last one, what kind of work would the two of you like to try?

Kamenashi: To use how our characters are completely different, I think it would be interesting to act opposite each other in a drama. Like a police one, we could both do investigations, all “I do this” - “Why are you doing this!”

Nakamaru: I see, even though we're opposites, we successfully become one and solve the cases, like that? That sounds interesting, I want it to come true!

WHITE – Something in the past you'd like to do over again
How I made my eyebrows only as thin as a toothpick until a couple of years ago. It's not like they're originally thin, but I thought I was improving them. That was just some years ago, but at that time I was sure it was seriously cool (laughs). Back then, doing make-up meant “no eyebrows (fixing them)” (laughs).

PERFECT – With that additional bit, it'd be perfect!
Kamenashi Answering mails – He hardly ever answers. If he does once in a while, it's so late, you're just all “What reply is that?” (laughs)
Taguchi Brakes – He has the looks, isn't shy and the strongest person, but he goes too far with his dajare.
Ueda Going forward, forward – Ueda sometimes reads the atmosphere of those around him and then doesn't want to speak his own opinion anymore, but I think he should step forward and say it.
Nakamaru Unwind – Until some years ago, he was more carefree, but recently he's quiet, his conscience that he “has to be a good boy” seems to have become stronger.

PLUS... Recommendation! A bit of a gourmet
I saw this on TV and with the challenge “Could this actually be tasty?”, it became quite a hit. The salty-sweet sauce of canned yakitori with natto is really good. They also presented a lot of other things, but since this was the only thing I had at home, I could immediately try it out. I want to take up other challenges soon too.

Ueda Tatsuya

WHITE – Something in the past you'd like to do over again
When I was a child, I was a boy who bullied the ones I liked. I'm exactly that type (laughs). For the boy, it's just teasing, but for the girl it's annoying. I'd like to do over again when I did that in elementary school... though I'm still that type today (laughs).

PERFECT – With that additional bit, it'd be perfect!
Kamenashi Being reckless – If he decides something, he goes for it headfirst, like he has no brakes. It's a good part of him, which I don't want him to change (laughs).
Taguchi Changing something, but... – It's difficult expressing it in words, but generally it's a feeling of “just a bit different” (laughs).
Tanaka A strong heart – Koki has surprisingly a delicate heart of glass. He directly faces people's words and actions.
Nakamaru Less seriousness – He's just too serious! If he keeps on like that, he will quickly turn into an old geezer (laughs).

PLUS... Recommendation! A bit of a gourmet
When I make curry, I use about 6 onions. Besides, I fry them thoroughly so that the natural sweetness of the curry comes out and it becomes tasty with only a mild spiciness. I take care to use vegetables not only in curry but other meals too, but I really like onions.

Kamenashi Kazuya

WHITE – Something in the past you'd like to do over again
There are some embarrassing failures, but I don't think I'd like to do anything over again. But as for a recent mistake, I went to get a massage and without noticing the paper underwear they have prepared for you, I wrapped the towel around my naked body and went to the treatment room, where they told me to take off the towel. The masseur froze, asking “Ah, what about the paper underwear?” (laughs)

PERFECT – With that additional bit, it'd be perfect!
Taguchi Cooperation – It's no problem at work, but normally Taguchi is doing things at his own pace. But since it's funny like that, it's not bad.
Tanaka Salt (?) – No reason, it's just a feeling (laughs). But talking about seasoning [can also mean well-being], a bit of salt is important, right?
Ueda Soy sauce – This also is just somehow a feeling. But if you add some soy sauce to Ueda, it might be good (laughs).
Nakamaru ○ (A circle) – Because he's serious, Nakamaru is. He sticks to his integrity to the last, like emitting an impression of exactness (laughs).

PLUS... Recommendation! A bit of a gourmet
Because I like butter, I use it for all kinds of things, but what's easily delicious is adding some in miso soup! Miso soup itself is already tasty, but by adding butter, it changes a smidgen from Japanese style to Western style, so please try it. In ramen, there's also miso butter, and the taste is normally good.

Taguchi Junnosuke

WHITE – Something in the past you'd like to do over again
Starting with second grade of middle school, I had to wear glasses and even now my sight is quite bad, and I feel that this is because I maybe played too many video games as a child. Maybe if I had tried to keep it moderate back then, my eyes wouldn't have gotten worse. The time I spent gaming is also enormous. I don't even want to think about it (laughs).

PERFECT – With that additional bit, it'd be perfect!
Kamenashi Basketball – He's already pretty big in Baseball. He should make the world of Basketball more active and take part in it!
Tanaka Knowledge about Evangelion – Koki as self-proclaimed anime-otaku certainly knows a lot, but for some reason he's ignorant about all things Evangelion.
Ueda The taste of beer – He always drinks plum wine soda or other cute drinks, but I haven't seen him drinking beer before. Get to know the taste of beer too!
Nakamaru His tension early in the morning – Nakamaru is so low tension in the morning! Since he already appears in “Shuuichi”, I'd want him to raise it a bit~.

PLUS... Recommendation! A bit of a gourmet
If you add ra-yu [spicy oil] to seafood flavoured cup noodles, it's delicious! It tastes like a hundred times better, if you ask me. Basically Ra-yu tastes good added to anything. Today I ate gyoza without soy sauce, just ra-yu, and it was delicious.

Nakamaru Yuichi

WHITE – Something in the past you'd like to do over again
It was about 10 years ago... There was a time where it was weirdly popular amongst the Johnny's Jr. to have dyed, long hair. Me too, being a Johnny's, had to join in and do the same, that's something I'd like to do over again. Well, if it looked good on you, it was ok. But for me...

PERFECT – With that additional bit, it'd be perfect!
Kamenashi Painting talent – I think generally he's good... but he has no sense for drawing. When you look at pictures he drew, you just feel disappointed (laughs).
Taguchi Holding back once in a while – It's great that he can come up with dajare instantly, but they're not something you always have to say. It's also important to hold back once in a while (laughs).
Tanaka Getting a hair cut – This is only my personal opinion, but I think Koki looks better with a shorter, neat hair cut.
Ueda Reason (laughs) – He frequently comes up with dirty stuff in the middle of conversations. Because he keeps talking all normally, you don't even notice it (laughs).

PLUS... Recommendation! A bit of a gourmet
Deep-fried garlic is the source of my energy. I eat it almost every day, I even bought a pot to use for deep-frying things and plates which are the perfect size for fried garlic. I lightly shake some salt over the fried, hot garlic and then eat them, it's excellent. With that I'm definitely energetic every day!

(When we play thumb wrestling, he gave up from the start. He's the type of guy who doesn't want to enter competitions he cannot win. With my fingers, I won by a landslide.) Indication of a good mood. Playing the boke, like he's reluctant to do it. When in a bad mood. No matter what, he winds up. His best impression. Cell from Dragon Ball. (He resembles him a lot) A one-liner. None.
